Live Like the End is Near (Because It Is)

If you knew today was going to be the last day of your life, what would you do? How would you spend today? Would you tell certain people that you love them? Maybe go visit some of your favorite spots for the last time? Finally mark a few things off that bucket list you’ve had for years?

What do you think other people would say if they knew today was your last day? Maybe they'd offer their condolences, or tell you something they've been keeping a secret from you, or ask "What took you so long?" when you're checking the boxes from your bucket list.

More importantly, is there anyone you would feel the need to share the Good News with before you die?

We don't know how much time we have left. People get in accidents and die everyday, or have heart attacks with no warning, or a number of other things could happen that could change the trajectory of your life or end it in an instant. Not only that, Jesus is coming back soon. The Bible tells us so (see Revelation 22). We don't know how soon, but he is coming! We don't have much time left. We need to be making as big of a difference as we can in the lives of those around us. Any one of us could live today and be gone tomorrow. So why don't we live like it? Why don't we live like today is the last day we have? Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Because of this, we ought to give our all to Jesus, tell others about him sooner rather than later, and live like today is the last day we have. After all, if our lives end today, what happens tomorrow?

Jesus tells us that whoever believes in him will receive eternal life with him, but those who don't believe in him, who don't die to themselves to live for him, they will receive punishment for their sins and will die a second time in hell. I have faith that I will get to spend eternity with Jesus because of my belief and choice to live for him. Am I perfect at it? No, not by a long shot, but I do what I can to live for Jesus each day, which is what he calls his followers to do. But I don't know where my neighbors are going, or my coworkers, or even other people I've attended church with. Some people, I can look how they live their lives and know with absolute certainty that I will see them in heaven. Others, I'm not so sure about. If my life could end in an instant, that means theirs could to. They could get in a tragic accident or die from health issues today, and I would never again have the chance to tell them about Jesus. We have to make the most of every moment, of every day. We need to love people and tell everyone of the love God has for us. We need to tell people about what Jesus has done for us and teach them about how they have two options: die in sin or live in Christ.

What are we waiting for? What are we doing with our lives? Let's tell the world what God has done! Talk to your friends and neighbors about your faith. Share with your coworkers what God's doing. Be open to who you can strike up a conversation with about Jesus. Because for all we know, today's the last chance we have to do so. For all we know, it's now or never. I'd much rather my life end with knowledge that I did my best to share the good news, than to die with regrets of not sharing the truth with everyone in my reach.

I need to work on this. I'm not gonna lie; I'm bad at just striking up conversations at work about the Good News. Among friends and fellow believers, I can talk Jesus all day long, but I rarely bring Jesus into my work conversations, so that's where I am going to start. What about you?
